The Upper Room – March 2013

Meditation for ‘The Upper Room’

The little things’

Suggested Bible Reading: Hebrews 4:14-16

Text: Hebrews 1:14. ‘Are not all the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?’

I was returning from a trip abroad and on my way home I had to take a coach from Heathrow to Wolverhampton, and then a train journey. I was struggling with my large suitcase because, although it had wheels, the pull-up handle was well and truly stuck. During the bus journey I worried as to how I would manage to walk the distance from the bus terminal to the railway station. I prayed: ‘Please, Lord, send and angel to help me with my suitcase.’

When I got off the bus the bus driver lifted the case for me and I tried in vain to pull up the handle. Then I started to walk, struggling and dragging. A young woman passing stopped, took over my case and walked with me to the railway station, where my train was just coming in. I said to my helper, ‘Thank you. You are an angel!’ She just smiled as I got on the train, and when I turned round to say goodbye she had completely disappeared.

While we had been walking she had not attempted to make conversation, and she had nothing with her, not even a handbag. I felt humbled and thanked God that he cares so much for us and the little things of our lives.

Prayer: ‘Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you care about each one of your children and our daily needs. Help me to be unselfish and caring toward others. Amen.’

Thought for the Day: I will thank God for all his care toward me today and every day.
